This tool allows you to safely deck the hub mating faces on the Mezzer fork lowers. From my testing, decking these surfaces just until the paint is removed provides the lowest sliding friction. This suggests that Manitou fixtures the lowers to cut the bushing bores before they are painted.
It doesn't look like much in the photo, but this is a very precise, 2-piece assembly that will ensure clean geometry of your dropouts.
Simply install the tool by flexing the lowers apart and aligning it within the axle bores. Then allow the lowers to clamp against the tool. Ensure the conic side stays fixed as you rotate the sanding side. After a few revolutions, open the lowers slightly and blow out the dust with compressed air. Continue working and inspecting the face until the paint is only just removed. Then switch sides.
Nicely made tool. Suggestion for refinement: print a hex socket on the opposite side of the sanding surface, to allow use of an electric tool to rotate that sanding surface (carefully)
Thanks for the review Nicolas! A hex drive is a totally fair request. My prototypes actually had this and I decided to take it out for production versions. The risk to the customer's expensive fork lowers just wasn't worth the bump in speed. If you go too fast a number of things can happen: remove too much material by accident, sandpaper loading up can cause inconsistant material removal, the tool itself can be damaged, etc. Since you only do it once, and it only takes a few minutes by hand, giving people the safest tool possible was the goal.
