Magnetic quick release mount for your Uniden R-Series radar detector. Affixes to your windshield with high-temp VHB tape, and allows you to quickly switch your detector between vehicles, or to just avoid the bounce, unexpected falls, and ugly appearance of the suction cups.
These are made at full density with a high end polymer rated for superior long-term tolerance to heat and UV, and come backed with VHB tape similarly rated.
For installation:
- I would recommend leaving the VHB backing tape on at first, with the radar detector attached to the bracket and the bracket attached the the mag mount, and figure out the ideal placement.
- You can even put some masking tape on the windshield to act as guides for where it will go.
- Make sure the front of the detector has at least 1" of clearance above it, because it needs to rotate upwards to release and install.
- Prep the surface well with rubbing alcohol and let dry.
- When attaching the mag mount to your windshield, try to get it lined up and hovering close to the glass, and stick just one side to start, slowly rolling towards the other side. This can help prevent trapping an air pocket.
- Once in place, apply firm pressure against it for 30-60 seconds.
- Please wait 24 hours before attaching the radar detector to the mount. This gives the VHB adhesive time to reach full bond strength.
- I found that putting two pieces of masking tape along the bottom of the bracket tongue, which inserts into the radar detector, tightens the fit quite a bit and reduces bounce.
To install the radar detector: Rotate it so that it is angled upwards at the front, and line up the top edge of the bracket with the two "claws" of the mag mount.
To remove: Pinch the body of the detector between your thumb and fingers near the back and rotate the front upwards. Once the mount releases, you can pull it away.
Warning: The VHB tape has a very high bond strength. If you install it over tint film, you run the risk of damaging it during future removal. Being very patient, using a hair dryer, and using fishing line to cut through the VHB are all helpful techniques. I will include a piece of static cling film. It can be used between the mount and window tint film.
